Karen B. asks, “ When will NOLF 2 be released in Europe? “
Dear Karen, since NOLF 2 is scheduled for a U.S. release during the forth
quarter of this year, I think that you can expect it to be in most European
stores by early 2003. If you simply can’t wait that long, I know I couldn’t,
you might try pre-ordering it from a U.S. Internet company such as, www.amazon.com or www.ebgames.com.
Eric W. writes, “ I’ve heard people talk about being able to fly in NOLF and
since I haven’t seen any airplanes in the game I was wondering if you know
what they’re talking about? “
Dear Eric, I think I know what those people were referring to when they mentioned
flying. There’s a fun little trick that you can do with proximity mines
that will defiantly get you airborne. Try this out with some friends
the next time you play Hydro. Have everyone join the same team and meet
in the middle of the bridge near where the proximity mines are located, on
the crate just below the water’s surface. Choose one of you to be the “ flyer “ and
have him stand perfectly still in the middle of the bridge while the rest of
your teammates get mines and throw them at his feet. After you’ve thrown
about 20 or so mines, the more mines around him the higher he’ll fly, stand
back and have one teammate shoot at the pile of mines beneath the “ flyer “. When
the mines explode your teammate will be blown hundreds of feet straight up
and will, for a short time at least, be flying. When I first experienced
seeing the entire map of Hydro beneath my feet from a bird’s-eye perspective
I was truly, pardon the pun, blown away.
Nicole J. wants to know, “ I’m a newbie and I want to join a clan. What
do I do? How do I become a clan member? “
Dear Nicole, There are three ways to belong to a clan, you can start your
own with some friends, you can be invited to join a clan or you can ask to
join a clan. Assuming that you want to join an existing clan the first
thing that you should do is make sure that you know how to play the game well. I
don’t mean that you have to be great, or even very good, before you join a
clan but you will have to know the basics. Try playing Death Match for
a while to learn how the different weapons work and which one you are most
confident with before you play Harm vs. Unity. When you start playing
Harm vs. Unity play a lot and learn the various maps, be friendly and be a
good teammate and opponent. If you are successful and clan members see
you frequently online you might be asked by one of them to join, or to try
out for, their clan. If you think that you know all the basic skills
of the game and no one has asked you to join a clan, don’t be shy, ask a member
of the clan that you want to join how you can arrange a try out. Most
clans are more than willing to give you a chance to try out. When you
have a try out for a clan, don’t be nervous just have fun and play as well
as you can. Believe it or not, the chances are that the clan wants you
to do well, and become a member, as much as you do. Good luck.
Brian has a very different question, “Do you know of a GOTY - Rest and Relaxation
level walkthrough that exists? Thanks for any help! “
Well Brian, I usually get my R & R by blowing up as many people as I can,
but I think that your question has a nice Zen quality to it, so I’ll try and
help you out. Let’s face it, NOLF is a beautiful game to look at and
sometimes I’ve wished that there was a little bit of a MYST like quality to
NOLF, with puzzles to solve and hidden grottos to meditate in, but as far as
I know a pure R & R level doesn’t exist in NOLF. What I would recommend
is downloading “ Valley of the Damned “ from the NG.com maps section and taking
a walk through it, if you haven’t seen this map yet I won’t spoil it for you
by telling you any of its’ special surprises. What I will say is that,
in my opinion, this has to be the largest and most beautifully rendered map
ever created for NOLF. This is not a popular map with many people because
until a NOLF server comes along that has the ability to handle 100 players
at a time this map is just too big to play. If the day ever arrives when
scores of people are able to play at the same time, then this map will be as
popular as Hydro is today.
